Planking (Trend) Part 4: Jordan

Planking! (trending)
Planking.. what is planking?

Planking involves holding a position in dangerous or public places to draw attention to yourself. It consists of lying down face first in an attempt to stay in that position longer than your friends.
The first recorded occurrence of planking was in 1994 when Tom Green performed a stunt he called "Dead Guy" for a cable TV show, which consisted of Green lying down on an Ottawa side walk without moving.
The popularity of planking has generated a backlash. Some people object to its ridiculous aspects; such as a girl planking with her head in a toilet, or a man planking on a stripper pole. Also, planking in dangerous places has resulted in many injuries and at least one death.
People who plan then take photos of themselves doing so and post it on social media.
Planking is a fad that became huge in the world 3 years ago and caused many horrible things and consequences. Lucking the fad is over.

Rick Rolling 101

As long as trolls are still trolling, the Rick will never stop rolling. - cotter548

Rickrolling 101: Rickrolling is an internet bait and switch meme. A user is first lured to click a link which they believe to be relevant to a particular topic. Next, Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" is played.

Rickrolling may as well have been the beginning of internet trolling. In 2008, Rickrolling began to trend. This trend predominantly began on YouTube, however has also been observed in real world scenarios. An exemplar of this was the live Rickrolling of the Church of Scientology protests in 2008. Another amusing scenario was the Rick Roll of a student's quantum physics essay which can be seen in the link below.

The original "Rick'Rolled" video was uploaded by 'cotter548' in May 2007. However, on the 19 July of this year, it was reported that the original Rick Roll video had been taken down for unknown reasons. But never fear, there are still thousands of Rick Rolls in existence.

"Baby - Justin Bieber ft. Ludacris" - This song is famous for the catchy chorus. The official music video currently has 1,093,960,594 views on youtube. "Baby" is Justin Bieber's "most viewed" music video and he is often identified and connected to that particular song. Artist Justin Bieber has received many negative comments through out the years relating to this particular song, however, it is still very well known and constantly played on the radio.

Baby Lyrics

Oh whoa
[3x]

You know you love me, I know you care
Just shout whenever, and I'll be there
You are my love, you are my heart
And we will never ever ever be apart

Are we an item? Girl, quit playing
We're just friends, what are you saying?
Say there's another and look right in my eyes
My first love broke my heart for the first time
And I was like...

Baby, baby, baby oooh
Like baby, baby, baby nooo
Like baby, baby, baby oooh
I thought you'd always be mine (mine)

Baby, baby, baby oooh
Like baby, baby, baby nooo
Like baby, baby, baby oooh
I thought you'd always be mine (mine)

Oh, for you I would have done whatever
And I just can't believe we ain't together
And I wanna play it cool, but I'm losin' you
I'll buy you anything, I'll buy you any ring

And I'm in pieces, baby fix me
And just shake me 'til you wake me from this bad dream
I'm going down, down, down, down
And I just can't believe my first love won't be around

And I'm like
Baby, baby, baby oooh
Like baby, baby, baby nooo
Like baby, baby, baby oooh
I thought you'd always be mine (mine)

Baby, baby, baby oooh
Like baby, baby, baby nooo
Like baby, baby, baby oooh
I thought you'd always be mine (mine)

[Ludacris:]
Luda! When I was 13, I had my first love,
There was nobody that compared to my baby
And nobody came between us or could ever come above
She had me going crazy, oh, I was star-struck,
She woke me up daily, don’t need no Starbucks.
She made my heart pound, it skipped a beat when I see her in the street and
At school on the playground but I really wanna see her on the weekend.
She knows she got me dazing cause she was so amazing
And now my heart is breaking but I just keep on saying...

Baby, baby, baby oooh
Like baby, baby, baby nooo
Like baby, baby, baby oooh
I thought you'd always be mine (mine)

Baby, baby, baby oooh
Like baby, baby, baby nooo
Like baby, baby, baby oooh
I thought you'd always be mine (mine)

I'm gone (Yeah Yeah Yeah, Yeah Yeah Yeah)
Now I'm all gone (Yeah Yeah Yeah, Yeah Yeah Yeah)
Now I'm all gone (Yeah Yeah Yeah, Yeah Yeah Yeah)
Now I'm all gone (gone, gone, gone...)
I'm gone

"The Harlem Shake" - The Harlem shake is an internet trend in the form of a short video in which a group of people perform a comedy sketch accompanied by a short excerpt from the song "Harlem Shake." The short videos which have been shown throughout social media networks always have people dancing inappropriately and are usually wearing something outrageous or in some cases, naked.

external image tn_8.jpg
Within the short video, a group of people will often be doing normal activities, for example reading or talking to someone, while one person is dancing and is being ignored by everyone else. In this image, a group of soldiers are in order. However there is one soldier who is dancing. No one seems to be paying any attention to that soldier. That is the the first few seconds of the video.

external image harlemshake_norwegian_army.jpg
The next few seconds of the video will then consist of everyone in the group dancing or doing strange and even inappropriate actions wearing outrageous outfits or in some cases, nothing at all. The video usually goes for approximately 30 seconds and is just this short comedy skit to the song.

Selfie

We are all aware of the international trending phenomenan where you want to take a picture of yourself and no one is there to do it for you. A selfie is a self-portrait photograph which is mostly taken using a digital or phone camera.
The first selfie recorded to date is of Robert Cornelius, a photographic pioneer who took a self-portrait in 1839 using the first publicly announced photgraphic process called Daguerreotype.

As photography developed and became more popular, selfies grew as a trend. However, the use of the word selfie was first thought to be used by Australia's ABC online forum on 13th September 2002.
The popularity of the trend selfie is predicted to have become internationally popular during late 2012. A survey conducted on Australian women during 2013 showed 2/3 of women between 18-24 commonly posted selfies on facebook.

Ultimately with beauty comes ugliness as selfies are a great risk to today's youth experiencing negative feedback and bullying, mainly woman.

My personal favourite outcome of the trend is the song #selfie by The Chainsmokers which has over 200 million views on YouTube.
Before I finish this post, just first 'let me take a selfie!'

Trend Instagramming food

This trend has no clear origin but a guess would be the time after the smartphone application "Instagram" was released. Firstly, "Instagram" was released in October, 2010 in the Itunes store, Google play store and Windows Phone store for smartphones. The price for the application in these stores are priceless, so anyone with a smartphone and likes taking photos would have most likely downloaded this application. The application allows the user to take a picture, put a filter, write a short description and then post it while being shared on other social networks.

What was a trend utilising this application was taking pictures of food, in particular the food you are eating, then filter the photo and just post it. The reason for posting these type photos is just share the good look of untouched food, mainly aimed at foodies(people that love food), friends and family. Through the filters, it can complement the look of the food just like how it would with a picture of a person. Also everyone likes looking at food with presentation.

Beliebers! Part 3 (Jordan)

The Urban Dictionary defines a belieber as someone who is an obsessive fan of Justin Bieber. The trend began in the Early 21st century. This was in correlation with the youtube sensation called "KidRauhl", otherwise known as Justin Bieber.

Beliebers are a trending group that went to a whole new level. Some people went to the extent of changing their physical appearance to be more like Justin Bieber.

Furthermore, Justin's concerts would be packed out by thousands of screaming girls just wanting to catch a glimpse of the teen sensation. In the movie "Never Say Never" they interviewed multiple girls who all said the same thing.. that all they want to do is see Justin. Barely any mentioned his music.

One girl who touched Justin Bieber broke down in tears and had to be taken to hospital due to the fact she fainted.

Beliebers are a crazy group of Justin Bieber fans and are amongst the most fanatical music fans in the world.

'Leave Britney Alone'

It all starts with the yellow curtains and ends with the dyed blonde hair. Yes I'm talking about Chris Crocker's emotional breakdown over the negative media received by Britney in her MTV Video Music Awards comeback performance. 'Leave Britney Alone' was uploaded to YouTube and MySpace on the 10th of September 2007 however the less viral 'Leave Britney Alone pt 1' was released the day before.

Chris Crocker's outburst was as a result of the poor outcome of Britney's performance that saw media kings like Perez Hilton and music producers like Simon Cowell giving negative statements about the performance.

The video was so fantastically melodramatic in 24 hours it received 2 million views and is constantly in 'the most discussed YouTube videos' records. However the fame did not only remain on the internet Chris Crocker was interviewed on The Howard Stern Show, The Today Show, KIIS-FM, MSNBC, CNN, Maury, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Fox News. This is extended to comments and previews of the video from international media, making it one of our viral favourites.

Ultimately the video is constantly been criticised for being fake (ironic, I know) and a platform for Chris Crocker to get media attention. I understand the views that believe the video is just acting but please just "leave Chris Crocker alone!"

Viral video/song/app/meme "Nyan Cat"

Here is a link for 10 straight hours of "Nyan Cat" --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wZZ7oFKsKzY
http://sandbox.yoyogames.com/extras/image/name/san2/468/441468/original/nyan_cat_wallpaper_by_nyakiru-d3e1zfl.png

The "Nyan Cat" video was uploaded on Youtube in April 2011. During 2011, the video ranked 5th on the list of most viewed in Youtube, this year the 3 minute and 37 seconds video has reached over 113 million views. The 10 hour version has 35 million views. The video consists of a cat with the body of a pop tart, leaving a rainbow trail, flying in space and a remixed backing track of the song "Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!" by daniwell, sung by Vocaloid Hatsune Miku. The word "nya" is Japanese for the sound of what a cat makes "meow".

The Nyan Cat character in the video was originally a GIF animation by Christopher Torres who was doing a donation drive for the Red Cross and was suggested in a live stream video chat to create a cat with a pop tart. The song in the video was originally on Niconico uploaded by user daniwell and another user named "momomomo" remixed the song.

Here's a link of the original nyan cat song --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN-2L2XcYOg

Nyan Cat has reached onto smartphones. On iTunes it's still currently free and classified as a game as the goal is mainly to play the game as long as you can.
